Francis Pakes

imagem Francis studied psychology in the town of Groningen in his native Netherlands. After a brief stint as a research assistant and an internship at Ohio State University, he joined the University of Portsmouth in 1998. Francis is a comparative scholar with a particular interest in how globalisation affects criminal justice discourses and practices. He has written extensively on criminal policy in the Netherlands, intersections of mental health and criminal justice and latterly also on fraud and missing persons investigations. At the University of Portsmouth he leads a professional doctorate programme that has over 80 senior professionals in criminal justice working towards their doctorate. He has published several books, including Comparative Criminal Justice (2010), and Globalisation and the Challenge to Criminology (2013), an edited collection.
